Lung CancerTobacco use and cigarette smoking remains the topmost causes behind occurrence of lung cancer. Also, smoking causes damage to almost every organ of the body including lungs, blood vessels, heart, mouth, skin, eyes, bones etc. Various research works have shown that majority of adult smokers begin at the early age of their life. The early the smoking begins, the more likely is that individual will continue to smoke for his lifetime. Cigarette smoking at early age puts them under great risk of getting lung cancer.

Cigarette smoking during childhood and adolescence is one of the major reasons behind significant health problems in young people including severe diseases such as lung cancer. They can cause serious effects on the lung growth and function. Cigarette smoking at an early stage plays a vital role in the development of lung cancer as it contributes highly to the duration of smoking and life time exposure to smoking-related carcinogens as well. Those who start smoking at an early age are more likely to develop severe addition to nicotine. Lung development is affected by early usage of tobacco as it leads to reduced lung function and impaired lung growth.

Cigarette Smoking | Lung CancerStudies have found that smoking during young adulthood increases the development of atherosclerosis and by early middle age, there’s more rapid progression of atherosclerosis and rapid decline of lung function. Smoke damage also leads to long-term lung diseases like Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). It also increases lung infection risks like tuberculosis, pneumonia etc.

There is urgent need to protect youngsters from getting lifetime addition of cigarette and tobacco use. They need to be protected from getting stuck in the vicious cycle of smoking. Public health and medical communities will have to take bold step to curb the current worldwide lung cancer pandemic. Different approaches need to be followed for tobacco prevention and control.
