World Lung Cancer Day is observed on August 1 annually across the globe. It was first established in the year 2012 and is observed every year to raise awareness of lung cancer issues. It is mainly aimed at raising awareness about Cancer affecting the Lung and its impact on human life. This initiative also entails the importance of preventive measures and early detection.
The most crucial factor in improving lung cancer survival rates is the early detection of the disease. Various studies have been conducted to analyze the diagnostic delay in lung cancer patients. They aim to study the relation between delay and the survival. As lungs cannot be seen or felt, it becomes harder to detect the problem. Many of the lung cancer symptoms do not appear until the cancer is at advanced stage.
One of the effective ways for early detection is lung cancer screening. It helps to detect cancer in its early stages. When cancer is found at early stage, it is more likely to be successfully treated. Those who smoke and have history of smoking are at highest risk of getting trapped in the vicious circle of lung cancer. Individuals who are being exposed to occupational hazards are also at its risk.
It has been found that the early lung cancer is detected, the better are the survival rates. One needs to be mentally, physically and emotionally strong to combat the side effects of this deadly disease. The right approach including early detection, recognizing symptoms and timely treatments helps in overcoming this disease. One should always work to spread awareness and educate more and more people about it.
