World Lung Cancer Day 2021: Promoting Lung Cancer Awareness

World Lung Cancer DayLung Cancer is the second most common form of cancers in the world. It is the leading cause of cancer deaths among both men and women. It takes more lives yearly than breast, colon and prostate cancers combine. World Lung Cancer Day falls on August 1 every year and is the time to spread lung cancer awareness and overall lung health.

History behind World Lung Cancer Day

In the early 20th century, Lung Cancer was a rare disease but it has gradually increased over the period of time and has become the most common types of cancers. One of the major reasons behind lung cancer remains smoking. The other factors that play a pivotal role in lung cancer spread are tobacco products, air pollution, industrial products and nutritional deficiencies. By 1950s, studies have proved that smoking was strongly correlated with lung cancer. The risk of lung cancer is 24 to 36 times higher in smokers as compared to non-smokers.

Celebrating World Lung Cancer Day

World Lung Cancer Day is celebrated by promoting awareness among people about this deadly disease. It is vital to raise awareness to the risk factors and symptoms of lung cancer on this day as well as all year round. One of the simplest ways to maintain good health is by staying away from habit of smoking. The main purpose of the day is to aware people about the factors that lead to lung cancer.

Many organizations and volunteers try to make people aware of the ways in a number of ways. They can look out for early signs of the disease so that they can be treated on time. One of the main reasons for lung cancer survival is the timely detection and treatment. This helps in saving the lives of many.

Let’s also take small steps to make people aware about its symptoms, causes and treatment options available for lung cancer.
