Quit Smoking This November: Lung Cancer Awareness MonthEveryone is aware of the fact that smoking leads to serious health issues including lung cancer and even death. But, still, one finds it very difficult to quit smoking. Why is that so? Why one is not able to quit smoking even though one is aware of the side effects? In this article, we discuss about the common causes that make it difficult to quit smoking:

Role of Nicotine

Nicotine is the main addictive drug found in tobacco and cigarettes. This makes it very hard to quit smoking. Nicotine is rapidly delivered to your brain and your brain does not get prepared easily to not having nicotine around. Nicotine stimulates parts of your brain and make you feel good. Over the period of time, nicotine becomes one’s necessity to feel okay. When one tries to stop smoking, this nicotine addiction may lead to getting anxious, upset or even depressed. One finds hard to concentrate on work, it dampers their personal life and find it difficult to sleep as well. Not only cigarettes or tobacco, but every drug containing nicotine makes it pleasurable to use.

While quitting smoking, one feels restlessness during the first days of weeks. The brain gets irritated for not getting nicotine and then the rest of the body as well. One common issue faced during the journey to quitting smoking is to feel hungry. You may eat more and it’s normal for your appetite to increase some.

Smoking and Lung Cancer

Undoubtedly, it is hard to quit smoking but at the same time, it is not an impossible task. With positive attitude and the zeal to quit smoking, one is able to quit this bad habit. Lung cancer chances get reduced significantly when one drops this single habit. There are several initiatives being run by government and non-government organizations that help one to quit smoking.
