Earthworm Slime Can Work to Kill Cancer Cells

EarthwormThe researchers have always been working towards trying out new and innovative ways to cure the deadly disease of lung cancer. Lung cancer is the second most common form of the disease among men and women. According to the ongoing research by Polish scientists, the earthworm slime can help to kill cancer cells. Yes, you read that right! They are researching for the potential use of earthworm coelomic fluid to treat lung cancer.

In the laboratory tests conducted by the scientists, the fluid that has been extracted directly from earthworms killed both the cancer cells as well as the healthy cells. The earthworms are capable of digesting any micro-organism including pathogenic. The digestive fluid could be used to treat lung cancer.

In the study, the researchers at the Maria Curie-Sklodowska University extracted fluid with 4.5 volts of electricity. Then, that fluid is filtered and heated to 70-degrees Celsius and cooled. The lab results had shown that the fluid damaged lung cancer cells in 75-80 percent of the cases. According to the Professor Jolanta Rzymowska of the Medical University of Lublin said, “The results are pleasing. Destroying the cells in the system outside the organism in 80 per cent of cancer cells is a result that makes us want to examine it more. It now needs to be transferred to animal tests.”

It is essential to choose the correct temperature and the initial conditions are crucial. The results of the research are in initial stage and the Polish team will need to identify active components of the coelomic fluid for further testing. In this regard, much more research is required to know about the effectiveness of earthworm slime in the cure of lung cancer.
