Bhruhat-Kantakari (Solanum indicum)Lung cancer is a malignant tumor that starts in the cells of the lungs. There are two types of cancer: non-small cell lung cancer and small cell lung cancer. We often discuss about the increasing use of ayurvedic herbs in the lung cancer treatment. One useful herb is the Bhruhat-Kantakari. Solanum Indicum is one of the dashmoola, group of 10 roots. The root as well as the fruit is also used in the treatment.

The regular use of ayurvedic medicines for lung cancer treatment helps to control the spread of the disease. It also helps in improving the quality of life and thus, enhancing the survival chances of the patient. This ayurvedic herb of Bhruhat-Kantakari is used to control tumor and strengthen immune system. It is a bitter herb and helps to open up lung passages. It cleans up the toxins of the body and improves appetite. Generally, one-third of the teaspoon is taken with honey.

In addition to helping lung cancer patients in relieving the pain, this herb is also useful in various problems. It is useful in asthma and chronic respiratory disorders. It helps one to relieve abdominal colic pain and relieve vomiting. The herb works great for asthma, bronchitis, sore throats and more.

Side Effects

Though this ayurvedic herb comes with no side effects but self medication with this medicine is strictly not recommended. You should take the herb in precise dosage and for a limited period of time, as advised by doctor. The over-dosage may cause indigestion and diarrhea. The patients who are diabetic or cardiac patients and also pregnant ladies and lactating mothers should strictly take this medicine under medical supervision.

  1. Hi Great article.Pancreatic cancer is always called “silent cancer”. A while ago I’ve read an article about Pancreatic Cancer. According to the article, Jaundice,Abdominal or back pain, and Poor appetite are some of the commonest syptoms you can look out for if you suspect you have pancreatic cancer. Do you agree?

    • Yes, Pancreatic cancer is also called “Silent Killer” and as you say its symptoms are abdomen or middle back pain, poor appetite. But this is not for Pancreatic cancer, this blog is only for lung cancer, if you have any lung cancer related question please feel free to ask.
