Drug: Keytruda (Pembrolizumab) to Treat NSCLC

Keytruda (Pembrolizumab)Keytruda (Pembrolizumab) is used to treat non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). This cancer medicine interferes with the growth and spread of cancer cells in the body. It is a FDA approved drug and to treat metastatic NSCLC with PD-L1 protein.

Lung Cancer Treatment

It may be used as your treatment option when your lung cancer has spread and tests positive for PD-L1 and tumor has not abnormal EGFR (Epidermal growth factor receptor) or ALK (anaplastic lymphoma kinase). PD-L1 is a protein expressed by cancer cells to evade immune system. It may also be used for advanced NSCLC when chemotherapy has been tried and contains platinum. According to a study, this immune therapy drug, Keytruda, may extend the lives of people with advanced lung cancer.

Treatment of Lung Cancer with Keytruda

Generally, Keytruda is injected into a vein through an IV. It is approved for use at a fixed dose of 200mg every three weeks until disease progression or up to 24 months in patients without disease progression. It helps the immune system detect and fight cancer cells. The medication causes your immune system to attack tissues in the areas of your body and affect the way they work.

Keytruda (Pembrolizumab)Precautions to be taken

Before taking this medicine, you should tell your doctor if you have a lung disease or breathing disorder. You should also inform him of any liver or kidney disease. Do not use this drug if you are pregnant as it could harm the unborn baby. It works by blocking the PD-1 pathway and helps the immune system do what it was meant to do.

Side Effects

The side effects include new or worsening cough, chest pain, pale skin, severe muscle weakness, diarrhea, kidney problems or symptoms of liver problems. The common side effects are itching or rashness, cough, joint pain or feeling tired. This is not a comprehensive list of side effects and others may occur.
