AstragalusAstragalus is a popular Chinese herb of which the root is used to make medicine. It is botanically called as “Astragalus Membranaceus” and grows up to three feet tall.  It is used in the treatment of lung cancer as it works to stimulate and increase the immune system. The root is a proven immune booster and works to inhibit tumor growth. It helps to reduce the immune-suppressing effects of chemotherapy. It helps to stop tumor growth and increases your T-cell levels and they in turn kill cancer cells. The Astragalus-based Chinese medicines are combined with platinum-based chemotherapy in the treatment of lung cancer.

It has shown to improve the quality of life for people with non-small cell lung cancer. It enhances the effects of platinum-based chemotherapy treatments by counteracting the damage to the immune system which is caused by chemotherapy. In addition to helping in killing cancer cells and reducing the toxic effects of chemotherapy, astragalus also works to protect the kidneys and lungs.

Astragalus works in two ways to help fight cancer: it kills cancer cells and reduces the toxic effects of chemotherapy. It helps in improving the quality of life and increases the effectiveness of the cancer treatment. Also, it increases the general resistance of the cancer patients to stress and disease.

Though there has not been enough scientific evidence to determine it is effective or not but has shown to increase the immune system. Chinese studies conclude that Astragalus has been used to treat cancer for thousands of years. They have also shown to offer a faster recovery and improved survival rates.

In addition to cancer treatment, it is used for the common cold, allergies, HIV/AIDS, anemia and respiratory infections to strengthen the immune system. It is also used as a general tonic to protect the liver and fight bacteria and viruses.
