Lung Cancer Increased by 5% in Last Two Years: Central Govt India

Lung CancerThe disease of lung cancer is a significant health concern all around the world. Its alarming rise is becoming serious issue among people of all ages. According to the govt figures, Lung cancer cases in India have gone up by more than five percent in last two years. The government said that the risk factors fot lung cancer include Toby products, unhealthy diet, air pollution and alcohol. It is also said that the highest cases of lung cancer are reported in the age group of 40 to 64 years. Above the age of 40, lung cancer was the most common cancer type among men and breast cancer was at topmost among females in all age groups.

Lung cancer cases have gone up from 98278 in the year 2020 to 103371 in 2022. This records a rise of 5.2 percent. Among both men and women, the maximum number of overall cancer cases was reported in Uttar Pradesh and these were 210958 in the year 2022. Maharashtra saw 121717 instances, West Bengal reported 113851 and Bihar reported 109274 cases in the same year.

Tamil Nadu topped the list in South India with 93536 cases, followed by Karnataka with 90349, 75536 cases in Andhra Pradesh and 59143 in Kerala. According to the Indian Council of Medical Research, one out of nine Indians is likely to suffer from cancer in their lifetime. There is no state except for Lakshadweep where the numbers have come down in last two years. Only Lakshadweep reported 28 cases in 2021 and 2022.

Although lung cancer cannot be prevented; but the risk can be reduced by following some useful tips. These include quitting smoking, avoiding second hand smoke, exercising and following a healthy diet. One should take precautions to avoid exposure to toxic chemicals at work and avoid radon exposure.
