Gemcitabine belongs to the group of cancer-fighting medications called antineoplastics. Gemcitabine Hydrochloride is a novel anti-cancer drug and is marketed as an indication of non-small cell lung cancer. It is used in patients where disease cannot be removed by surgery. This chemotherapy drug attacks cells at specific phases in the cycle. Various studies have been conducted to evaluate its efficacy in treating NSCLC. It is generally given in combination with chemotherapy using agency like cisplatin, pacliltaxel, vinorelbine and docetaxel.
How is it given?
The medication is generally given by injection into the vein by the healthcare professional. It is given for about half an hour as directed by your doctor. The dosage depends on your medical condition, body size, height and weight, general health or other health problems and response to lung cancer treatment.
Precautions to be taken
Before starting Gemcitabine Hydrochloride, you should tell your doctor about any other medications you are having lung cancer treatment. Without approval of doctor, you should not receive any kind of vaccination while taking Gemcitabine Hydrochloride.
