lung | Lung CancerWorld Lung Day is observed on 25th September each year to make people aware of their lung health. It is organized by the Forum of International Respiratory Societies (FIRS) and this year theme was “Clean Air and Healthy Lungs for All.”  It highlights the critical link between air quality and Lung health. It has been estimated that seven million deaths attribute to air pollution related illnesses annually. These include Lung cancer, COPD and respiratory infections.

On World Lung Day, various hospitals and organizations hold camps to highlight the importance of healthy lungs and discuss about the causes and prevention for lung related diseases. Galaxy Super Emedkit posted on social media X, “On World Lung Day 2024, let’s unite for healthier lungs and a better future. It’s a day to raise awareness and for clean air, prevention, and better care for all.”

World Lung Day has important significance in addressing Lung related issues such as asthma, cancer, tuberculosis and other infections. These diseases affect the health of lungs and deteriorate the overall health system. It is vital to tale care of the lungs by following a healthy lifestyle and carrying out good habits. As this year theme focuses on, people should minimize exposure to pollutants to keep their lungs healthy. The air pollution particles directly enter via breathing and infect the lungs. Also, it is important to reduce gas emissions to combat the health risks and mortality linked to air pollution worldwide. Those with existing respiratory conditions are especially vulnerable to its effects.

We all should also take efforts in improving the air quality, protecting lung health and thus, saving lives. The information shared in this blog is for educational purposes only. For any health issues, contact your healthcare professional.
